Eating out on the cheap - any nominations?

June 23, 2006

Basically, what I’m after are some places that are good for a meal that’s none too pricey but also none too gross. I like those 2 and 3 course menus but most of the time they turn out to be so very below average. So I never go to these places. I need you, my readers, to let me know where it is you all go when you want to dine out but it’s about 2 days from payday and you’re just a tad bit skint. We’ve already mentioned Pokeno Pies and Carluccio’s. Anywhere else? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

You’ve got to try The Real Eating Company in Hove. It’s not cheap - so won’t suit your current, skint state - but it’s damn good.

Also there’s a place called, I think, Mumma’s Kitchen. It’s down in the lanes and does Soul Food - meant to be fantastic since Gordon Ramsay helped Mumma in an early episode of The F Word. She does a tasting plate called Soul in a Bowl.

Did you see the documentary the other night about the guy that started the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Food just after WWII. I don’t know why it’s not still around - the food here can be dire.

By the way, “Gastronaut”, I love it.

Oh. I’ve been to the Real Eating Company, several times. Just see a few posts below! :) We’re heading off to the new Gourmet Burger Kitchen tonight, that’s pretty good if you wanna keep things cheap; I’ve been once before but I feel like I need to have a proper beef burger before I give it any reviews. I’m going to a baby shower at Momma Cherri’s next weekend so she shalls soon be blogged as well, although I think she’s put up her Soul in a Bowl to £15 a head. Cheeky.

I’ll have to check out the SPCF, sounds fantastic!

Wagamama can be pretty cheap, although in a way it’s expensive since after all, it’s just noodles. The main thing is, it’s quick so if your strapped for time as well as cash, might be worth a go. The chicken Katsu Curry is especailly good.
